The Home Renovation Guidebook
In progress, coming Spring 2026
Renovating a home can feel overwhelming. Whether you’ve just moved in and everything feels urgent, or you’re trying to look past outdated finishes to see what a home could become, it’s not always clear where to begin, or which decisions really matter.
This guidebook is an ongoing project designed to help homeowners approach renovations more thoughtfully. It focuses on strategy rather than style: how to plan projects, manage time and money, understand scope, and make smart trade-offs along the way.
It’s also an attempt to lower the barrier to design, by making professional project management strategies and design decisions more accessible, without requiring a full design project or a big upfront commitment.
A central idea behind the Guidebook is knowing when it makes sense to do the work yourself and when hiring a professional is actually the more efficient choice. DIY projects can stretch a budget and build confidence, but doing everything yourself isn’t always the goal. Protecting your time, avoiding costly mistakes, and focusing your energy where it has the most impact often leads to better outcomes; both financially and personally.
The guidebook breaks down common renovation projects and explains what’s really involved, so you can move forward with clearer expectations. It’s meant to be used as a reference over time; early in the planning stages, mid-project when decisions pile up, or whenever you need help thinking through options.
Some sections of the guide are shared publicly while it’s under development. The full guidebook will eventually be released as a digital resource for homeowners who want a more complete, structured version.
Whether or not you ever hire an architect or general contractor, the goal is the same: to help you make informed decisions, avoid common missteps, and get more value, practical and personal, out of improving your home.
